Micaela F.
Lipman
Educator
I find teaching energizing and motivating. I strive to create welcoming learning environments with clearly explained expectations, and a class culture grounded in kindness, generosity, solidarity, and respect. I push my students to engage with course themes from multiple angles including readings, art, music, videos, discussions, lectures, community events, classroom debates, trivia games, and more. I focus on developing critical thinking and communication skills while also providing students with practical skills and theoretical grounding. I am comfortable teaching a wide range of courses across undergraduate and graduate programs.
Researcher
My research lies at the intersection of food justice, disability justice, and youth justice. I enjoy exploring the spaces that cross between disciplines and methods. While trained as an urban and regional planning scholar, I maintain research partnerships across sociology, geography, political science, environmental sustainability, law, and philosophy departments.
Facilitator
I have over a decade of experience in providing fun, equity driven facilitation for a variety of clients including food policy councils, academic departments, community coalitions, sports organizations, restaurant groups, youth councils, and more!
Consultant
I routinely consult on social science research projects involving community based methods, especially when working with adolescents and youth, and/or disabled communities.
